Before his arrest, Robert Courtney served as a deacon at the Assembly of God Church he was a member of in Kansas City. In 1990, Courtney began purchasing pharmaceuticals on the “gray market” and using them to fill prescriptions at his pharmacy. In time, he began diluting prescriptions to increase profits. Both practices were and…
If you have worshipped with us in the past two weeks you heard me announce that we are doing work on discovering the Core Values of Community Lutheran Church. Our Core Values are separate from but complementary to our Mission Statement of: Real People, Inclusive God, Radical Grace, and Inspired Growth. Our Core Values already…
In times of uncertainty, in times of conflict and in times of evaluation, I turn to this verse… Do not be over-righteous, neither be over-wise— why destroy yourself? Do not be over-wicked, and do not be a fool— why die before your time? It is good to grasp the one and not let go of…
In his book “Growing Strong in the Seasons of Life”, the author Charles Swindoll tells a story about the 19th Century agnostic Thomas Huxley (some of you might know that it was Huxley who promoted Darwinism and Humanism in his attacks on Christianity). I listened intently to the Bishop’s message. I felt like I register under the “old”
that has to change. I have to say that this was the bishop’s opinion of what he thinks the future holds that the neighborhood church might not be the future or maybe it could be one of the outreach pods. I have the thought that God might have a different plan. The church as we know it today has watered down and has taken a ” on the middle of the fence position”. There are things going on that the bible does not approve of…but it goes on. I have many things to think about on this one.
I think Bishop Miller isn’t saying this is the only way the church will operate in the future. He is saying this is one model that is already working within the city.
The Bishop’s message reminds me of way back when the Jews met in small groups (pods). Are we going backward?
